Good News! Another Stem Cell Clinical Research Project Has Been Approved by the National Health Commission

Regenerative medicine technologies, exemplified by stem cell technology, represent the “third medical revolution” following pharmacological and surgical therapies. Stem cells possess the remarkable ability to differentiate into and form any type of tissue in vivo, as well as to self-renew and generate additional stem cells, making them a key frontier area of international medical research in recent years.

On October 20, 2021, the prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study titled “Treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcers with Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell Injection,” submitted by President Jin Peisheng and his team at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, successfully passed the filing and approval process of the National Health Commission. This marks the first stem cell–based research project for the treatment of diabetic foot to be approved nationwide. Currently, all preparatory work is in place, and the study plans to recruit 60 patients with diabetic foot to receive free umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell therapy.
